Governmental Belgium Anti-Semitism

Mike L.

The snippet below was written by Peter Martino and published by the Gatestone Institute.

Shockingly, in Belgium, history lessons about Nazism and the Holocaust are currently being used to infuse children with hatred against Israel.

The Belgian Ministry of Education funds an organization, the Special Committee for Remembrance Education (BCH), which provides teachers with ready-made templates for their history lessons. In its September issue, Joods Actueel, the largest Jewish magazine in Belgium, describes this educational material as "perverted." The so-called Remembrance Education, the magazine writes, "has degenerated into an instrument to infect youngsters with hatred of Israel and anti-Semitism."

One of the materials used is the cartoon "Never Again, Over Again." It equates the treatment of the Palestinians by the Israelis today with the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis in the 1930s and 40s.
"Never Again means that what happened under Hitler should never happen again. And Over Again means that what is happening today is the same as in the past with Hitler," the Belgian school teachers are told. "In the past, the concentration camps were fenced off with barbed wire. Today, the border between Israel and Palestine is marked with barbed wire and a wall."

The atrocities committed by the Nazis are linked to the so-called atrocities of Israel. Teachers indoctrinated with teaching material provided by an organization that is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education, in turn indoctrinate the school children in their care.

The material of the Special Committee for Remembrance Education is frequently used by primary school teachers, who seem to have little knowledge of history. Two Belgian researchers, Jan Swerts and Kurt Monten of the Catholic College of Limburg, found that young people studying to become teachers know amazingly little about history. Many of them were unable to tell in which century the Second World War took place. They knew hardly anything about major ideologies such as Socialism and Communism. Ten percent of them even confused Zionism with Fascism. They are easy prey for the anti-Semites who author some of the material provided by the Special Committee for Remembrance Education.
I wonder to what extent the Jewish left considers the cartoon above to be fair and accurate?

I think that they may be uncomfortable with it.  But given the fact the Jewish left tends to think that the real problem is the "Occupation" (with the capital "O") then they must believe that the Jews of the Middle East are, like the Nazis, Oppressors (also with a capital "O").

Part of the reason that I am focusing on the Jewish left is because the Jewish left has at least some influence with the international left, more generally, and the international left, including the EU, has a significant impact on the State of Israel and the Jewish people, as a whole.

And this is why someone like Jon Segall is relevant.

I apologize to my readers for perhaps focusing too much on this particular individual, but he is significant to the extent that he represents the political movement that he comes from.  The main problem with progressive-left Jewry is egotism.  That is, the main problem with progressive-left Jewry is that they honestly tend to think that the Jews of the Middle East are the reason for the hatred leveled at them by the vast Arab-Muslim majority.  In this way, they tend to think the real problem is with the tiny Jewish minority and not the vast Arab-Muslims majority.

This is egotism writ large.

Thus progressive-left Jews, like Jon Segall, focus their animosity on their fellow Jews who either live in Judea and Samaria or upon diaspora Jews who are supportive of Jews living within their traditional homeland.

Until we recognize that the problem is not with the Jewish people, but with our tormentors, we will never break free from this ongoing violence and harrasment.

Until people like Jon Segall come to recognize that the real problem here is not with Jews who live in Judea and Samaria then the ongoing war against the Jewish people people will continue on into the future and be supported by the European governments who look upon Jewish hatred toward Jews on those lands as a form of sanction.

Until we learn to stand up for ourselves, we have no chance.

  1. Painting the people you don't like as supernally evil is the first step. From there they move on to hiding the abuses and repression wreaked upon them. And then, of course after it's clear that they did, deny it ever happened at all. Fascists will tell you either there was no holocaust or there was and it was negligible. Leftists will admit there was but that it didn't go far enough.

  2. WOW... Mike... A mind is a terrible thing to lose.

You do realize that this obsession regarding what you perceive I think is becoming vaguely unhealthy. Perhaps you need a hobby (other than wondering what evil plans I may be cooking up as of late). If it would be helpful, I might suggest crochet, or knitting.

  3. Oh and perhaps you can clear something up....

Are you even intimating that I have ever said that the situation in Gaza is even remotely like that faced by the Jews during the Shoah? Are you implying that I think the Israelis are behaving like Nazi's? If so, do you think you can back that up with some quotes from me regarding that?

Also - do you think that I believe that the only reason the Arabs hate Israel has to do with the Occupation???? Really????

    1. Show me a single article that you have written that focuses on the primary challenge of the Jewish people today, which is the rise of political Islam.

      Show me just one, Jon.

    2. I consider you a vile individual.

The reason for that is because you focus your hatred not on the enemies of the Jewish people, but upon the Jewish people who you hold responsible for Arab violence against the Jews of the Middle East.

Thus, along with Barack Obama, you spread hatred toward your fellow Jews in Judea and Samarian - the so-called "settlers" and toward your fellow Jews who either consider themselves "conservative" or whom you stick that label upon in order to demonize and delegitimize so that you don't have to actually consider their point of view.

You have yet to link us to even a single article that you have written that focuses on the real challenge to the Jewish people, which is political Islam.

I have specific criticisms of the left and of the Jewish left.

My first criticism is the failure of the left, and of the Jewish left, to speak out against political Islam.

You wrote a blog called "The Progressive Zionist."

You therefore claim to stand for the progressive-left from a Jewish perspective and, yet, you cannot point to one single article that you have written whose main focus is the rise of political Islam, which is the most racist and misogynistic and anti-Semitic political movement in the world today.

Thus, inevitably, any conversation with you descends into toxic ad hominem attacks, because you are incapable of honestly addressing the issues.

Until you can do so, you have no credibility.

So, yet again, I ask you, show me a single solitary article out of the 400 posted on your blog that focuses on the problem of the rise of political Islam throughout the Middle East.

      Just one.

If you cannot do that, which I think that you cannot, it lends credence to my initial assertion that the progressive left, and the Jewish left, has failed to speak out against this movement.

You are, in this exercise, demonstrating the truthfulness of my initial assertion.

We will shortly move on to my next assertion and we will see how well you do in refuting it. You have absolutely failed to refute my initial one and I trust you will do no better with my next one.

    3. LOL.. Take Care Mike... I can see that you have pretty much completely lost your mind, so really... there is not much more to say here. I hope that your obsession with me goes well and that you somehow find your way in these trying political times.

So Good Luck, Have fun and Keep on, Keepin' on. You were funny for a bit, but, now you are just pathetic.

      Shalom buddy.

    4. LOL.. Take Care Jon...

If I may be frank, you are an idiot.

I do not like you, but I will continue to criticize you because you represent a point of view and a way of being that I find reprehensible.

      Look, you made a claim.

The claim was that you completely disagree with my point of view.

If that is the case then surely you must disagree with my central conclusions.

One of my central conclusions is that the progressive-left, and the Jewish left, has failed in any meaningful way to speak out against the rise of political Islam.

You disagree with that claim and, yet, you cannot dig up even a single article on your own blog that does so.

      This makes you a moron.

I normally wouldn't use such terminology in speaking with others - but you so richly deserve it.

btw, when are you going to apologize to Jay for smearing his name and suggesting that he was trying to hurt your children?

When are you going to stand up and be a man?

  4. Mike... I asked you very specific questions that all they need is a simple yes or no answers.

    Again:

Are you even intimating that I have ever said that the situation in Gaza is even remotely like that faced by the Jews during the Shoah? Are you implying that I think the Israelis are behaving like Nazi's? If so, do you think you can back that up with some quotes from me regarding that?

Also - do you think that I believe that the only reason the Arabs hate Israel has to do with the Occupation???? Really????

    1. The answer to your first question is "no" but that's not the point.

The answer to your second question is mainly "yes."

From what I have read of your writings you are far more hostile toward the persecuted Jewish minority in the Middle East than you are of their Arab-Muslim persecutors.

If this were not the case you would certainly be able to point to a single article that you have written at The Progressive Zionist that criticizes the rise of political Islam and, yet, you cannot do so.

400 articles and not ONE written by you that is primarily critical of "radical Islam" or "political Islam" or "Islamism"?

I do not know what it is that you think that you stand for, but whatever it is, it is not the well-being of the Jewish people.

Get this through your thick skull, one cannot stand up for the well-being of the Jews if one fails to stand against the rise of political Islam.

Certainly even you cannot be so stupid as to not recognize this.

  5. I still reserve the right to raise an angry mob to boil out into the streets and firebomb a few city blocks, snatch up some anti semitic brownshirts or just whomever's around and curb stomp them all to death. I would also like to see that cartoonist live under a death threat, until of course he's actually killed. Lather rinse repeat for 20 years until anyone who's the slightest inclination to say anything like this has to look over their shoulder for the "Jewhad".

Because that's all this is. Scream about the Jews because anyone who dares stand up to them will be living under some kind of fatwa-liberal hate crime edict. The secret to breaking through that is to break a lot of heads and pour down the wrath of whichever deity you like on their heads.

  7. What a truly evil cartoon.

Coming from "poor little Belgium" it adds an order of magnitude.

  8. I take them at their word. If everything and everyone is engaged in a global war, fine. Then all of this twaddle is war time propaganda. Full Stop. Cartoons were very useful in WW2, Dr Seuss made some great ones. It's not reasoned, or 'free' or art or anything. It's war time propaganda. Think of it in those terms including defacing it wherever you see it. After all, they're the ones claiming they're waging a global jihad. Well Ok, they're all targets then.
